St. Eugenia of Rome
St. Eugenia of Rome
2024

St. Eugenia of Rome, a Christian martyr venerated in the early church, is remembered for her remarkable story of defiance & transformation. Born in the 3rd century, she was a noblewoman who chose to live as a male monk, disguising her identity to pursue spiritual life & aid the poor. Her true gender was discovered, leading to her persecution & eventual martyrdom for her faith & unconventional commitment.

Inspired by the Divine Spirit, you sang the praises of God
receiving the light of divine knowledge, O Eugenia, Christ's beautiful virgin
You shone forth in the choirs of monastics
& in your contest you triumphed over the Enemy
O glorious Martyr, entreat Christ God to grant us great mercy
